Goodbye Year 6

As all of you will know this is the last term for our Year 6 pupils in Knelston   Primary School . We thought we might let you know the types of events they have been involved in to help their smooth transition to Bishopston Comprehensive  School(BCS):

June 11th - Yr 6 musicians are invited to an Orchestra Day at BCS.

June 17th - All Y6 classes from the local feeder schools attend a Fun Sports Morning at BCS.

July 8th - Induction Day at the Comprehensive with all Yr 6 pupils catching the school bus.

July 13th - Yr 6 to attend Bishopston's Summer production.

July 14th – Leavers Assembly.

July 15th - Yr 6 Awards Day. A moving and memorable afternoon for Y6 parents and children alike.

Yr 6 have also been involved with other activities for instance, Y6  will have received, by the end of this term, a total of six 1 hour French lessons, by way of an introduction to the subject, linked to BCS. Also on 21st May Y5/6 girls were involved in a netball competition held at BCS. Thank you to all the girls who participated. Further, all Y6 pupils were involved in the Young Engineers KNEX challenge held on 8th June in the school hall. Plus a selection of pupils from Y6 will be attending the Kwick Cricket Tournament at Mumbles Cricket Club in June( cancelled). Good luck to all those involved.

All our Y6 pupils seem to be very excited about their next move up to Bishopston Comprehensive School . We would like to wish them the very best of luck for their new exciting adventures ahead.

Teacher Appointment

As most of you will now be aware interviews took place on the 20th and 22nd May. A total of 6 candidates were put through their paces by the Interview Panel. Finally the successful candidate was Mr. Gareth Thomas, who will be commencing his position as Y6 teacher in September. Miss Mackay has been offered a permanent full time position within the school and will be continuing to teach Y1 in September along with afternoon PPA  teaching support.  We would like to extend our warm congratulations to both teachers and welcome them on board to Knelston Primary.

Rewiring at Knelston

The complete re-wiring of our School will take place during the summer holidays by a Company called Atkins. The cost will be centrally funded by the LEA, with all classrooms being fitted with extra power points. It is likely that  the outside lighting will be reviewed and updated - (most helpful on those dark winter parents evenings and  school concerts).

Any Offers to Help?

The path that leads around the school grounds has begun to deteriorate substantially creating an uneven surface. The school is very eager for it to be re-surfaced and has investigated the cost of having tarmac laid. The school was astounded by the terrific cost attached to this process. No funding is available from LEA as yet. If any one has any ideas or can help the school out on this issue, please contact Mr Roy Davies. Thank you.

Summer Sun !

Please remember to protect your children from the sun by bringing a sun hat into school and applying a sun cream to them before they arrive at school.

School baseball caps are now on sale for a very reasonable £3.00. Thank you for your support.
